GA man killed in fire linked to unattended cooking

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (AP) — State fire officials say a man has died after a house fire in south Georgia.

State Fire and Insurance Commissioner's spokesman Glen Allen says 33-year-old Andrew Lenair Sursson was killed Sunday afternoon in a blaze that was linked to unattended cooking.

Allen says several children were able to escape the fire and investigators didn't find a working smoke alarm inside the badly damaged home.

Allen says Sursson is the 95th person to be killed in a fire in the state. Last week was National Fire Prevention Week, and this year's theme was preventing cooking fires.

Counting Sursson's death, Allen says 14 people in the state have been killed in fires that were linked to unattended cooking.
