ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Two former University of Georgia athletes have been indicted on charges they conspired to commit armed robbery.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/19JbnQN ) that 22-year-old Demario Mayfield and 25-year-old Ricardo James Crawford were arrested May 27. Police say the two were acting suspiciously and were found to have handguns, masks and gloves.
The indictment filed Tuesday charges them with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, loitering or prowling, and possession of marijuana.
Mayfield is a former UGA basketball player who transferred in 2010 to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was released on $11,200 bond.
Crawford started playing defensive tackle for UGA in 2006, but saw limited playing time and graduated in 2009. He was being held without bond.
It was not immediately clear whether Mayfield and Crawford have lawyers.
