MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — A Cobb County jury has convicted a man for helping his girlfriend steal from her employer.
Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds said in a release that 44-year-old Robert Gustavus Whaley of Dallas was convicted Thursday on two counts of racketeering.
Prosecutors say Whaley helped Sharron Rice steal more than $800,000 from her employer, an apartment management company. Prosecutors say Rice cut checks to a fake vendor and deposited some of the money in an account Whaley opened.
Whaley was already on probation as a first offender after pleading guilty to stealing computers from a company where he'd been a consultant.
A judge sentenced Whaley to five years in prison followed by 15 years on probation and ordered him to pay $803,000 restitution.
Rice pleaded guilty to the charges in June.
