Authorities Seize Meth, Heroin Packaged as Mexican Candy

Posted

ATLANTA (AP) - Federal authorities say they've seized methamphetamine and heroin that was packaged to look like Mexican candy.

DEA Special Agent In Charge Dan Salter said during a press conference that investigators executed a search warrant in southeast Atlanta Tuesday and found $8.1 million worth of methamphetamine and heroin that was designed to look like candy.

Salter says one suspect was arrested and authorities believe the meth and heroin are linked to a Mexican drug operation. Salter says the arrest was the result of an ongoing investigation and the drugs were likely driven into Atlanta from elsewhere. The suspect's identity hasn't been released.

Atlanta Police Department Assistant Chief Shawn Jones says the meth lab was the second to be dismantled in Atlanta in the past six weeks.
