ATLANTA (AP) - Federal agriculture officials say an Atlanta-based program is among the groups being given grant funding to connect school cafeterias with produce grown on local farms.
U.S. Department of Agriculture officials said Tuesday that Georgia Organics Inc. will split more than $884,484 awarded for projects in the Southeast to create farm-to-school programs that will help boost consumption of local goods, launch school garden programs and more.
Officials say the program began after the passage of the Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which allowed the USDA to give grants and technical help to schools looking to bolster consumption of locally produced goods.
