GRIFFIN, Ga. (AP) - Police say a Georgia high school teacher has been charged with rape and child molestation of a young female relative.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday that police arrested 51-year-old Stephen Chapman last week. A Griffin-Spalding County Schools spokeswoman told WSB-TV that Chapman was a math teacher at Griffin High School for two years prior to his arrest.
Griffin Police Lt. Mike Richardson says a girl related to Chapman reported the alleged incidents to police on Aug. 13. After an investigation, Chapman was arrested the next day.
The spokeswoman says the school system was unaware Chapman had been under investigation until officers showed up at Griffin High School. The spokeswoman says none of the alleged incidents occurred in the school.
Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney for Chapman.
