DECATUR, Ga. (AP) -- Two men convicted of killing a man they lured with a fake Craigslist ad for an iPhone have been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
DeKalb County District Attorney's spokesman Erik Burton said in a statement that 20-year-old Contevious Stepp-McCommons and 19-year-old Malik Rice were sentenced Tuesday.
Prosecutors say the men set up a fake ad in 2013 and lured Clarence Gardenhire, 56, to his death. Authorities say the two met Gardenhire and his son at an abandoned house in southeast Atlanta and shot him during an attempted armed robbery. The two were charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, weapons violations and criminal attempt to commit a felony.
Prosecutors say Gardenhire, of Tallahassee, Florida was visiting Atlanta for the birth of his ninth grandchild.
