DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison in a fatal shooting at a DeKalb County MARTA bus stop.
Multiple news outlets reported Tuesday that 18-year-old Christopher Oliver Merritt took a plea deal and was sentenced to life without parole in the November shooting death of 19-year-old Marcaysia Dawkins.
Authorities have said Dawkins was waiting for a bus in Lithonia when she was attacked during an attempted armed robbery that was recorded on a nearby gas station's surveillance system.
Dawkins's relatives have said she grew up outside Pittsburgh and had planned to join the U.S. Navy.
CBS 46-TV reports Merritt said in court that he had been on drugs and has become a born-again Christian.
