JEFFERSON, Ga. (AP) — A Georgia man has been indicted in the hit-and-run death of a 64-year-old bicyclist in Jackson County.
The indictment charges 51-year-old Billy Eugene Bowers Sr. of Gainesville with multiple crimes including vehicular homicide, hit and run and driving under the influence.
Bowers is charged in the May 4 death of David McLoy Fitzpatrick of Braselton, who was killed while riding his bicycle on Georgia Highway 53.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (bit.ly/1mKiX8W) a Jackson County grand jury returned the indictment Monday. It was not immediately known if Bowers had an attorney.
The Georgia State Patrol reported that Bowers hit Fitzpatrick from behind while driving a Toyota pickup truck. Authorities say a witness followed Bowers and confronted him.
