JACKSON Co., FL (WTXL)- A Georgia man is now in custody after leading officers on a pursuit in Jackson County that ended with him and his passenger being thrown from their motorcycle.
An investigator with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office saw a motorcycle traveling on Hwy 231 at a high rate of speed. The officer then attempted to pull over the driver, Dakota Owens, but the 21-year-old sped off.
Officials chased Owens and say they were forced to drive at speeds over 110 miles per hour down Highway 231 north of the City of Cottondale.
At one point officers attempted to box the motorcycle in, but Owens was able to navigate through, turning onto Mill Road.
Eventually Owens rear-ended a Chevrolet truck on a curve in the road. The motorcycle hit the truck's rear tire, causing Owens and his passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle.
Deputies say, the two were taken to Jackson Hospital as a precaution. Owens did not have any injuries, but his passenger was treated for a sprained wrist.
After the two were released from the hospital, Owens was taken to the Jackson County jail. He is charged with not having a motorcycle endorsement, unlawful use of a temporary tag, and aggravated fleeing.
