ATLANTA, GA. (WTXL) - The Georgia legal community put up some big numbers when it came to collecting food.
According to Attorney General Sam Olens, says the legal community raised the equivalent of 1,181,412 pounds of food, the equivalent of $289,242.50.
The fundraising event is titled the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy. This is the fourth annual food drive in which lawyers and staff compete outside the courtroom for two weeks to raise food and funds for Georgia's eight regional food banks. The competition took place April 20 - May 1, 2015. Since its inception in 2012, the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy has collectively raised the equivalent of 3,777,852 pounds of food.
Georgia State University School of Law raised the equivalent of 40.53 pounds per person of food.
Georgia's eight regional food banks serve 156,500 unique clients in Georgia on a weekly basis. All of the food and funds collected during the Legal Food Frenzy have been donated directly to the regional food bank that serves each competitor's community.
