GEORGIA (WTXL) - Georgia Governor Nathan Deal is declaring a state of emergency for 16 southern Georgia counties.
Governor Deal declared that Baker, Mitchell, Colquitt, Cook, Berrien, Lowndes, Brooks, and Thomas counties have been added to the counties listed as in a state of emergency.
The distinguishment helps with immediate resource assistance for those in need.
Deal says he has spoken to President Donald Trump since the severe damage in the state.
"I want to thank President Trump for giving me a call yesterday to tell me that he was aware of what was happening in our state and he stood ready to provide us assistance to us," said Governor Deal.
Governor Deal is also extending the executive order to run through midnight on January 30th.
He plans to visit the affected areas on Wednesday.
