ATLANTA, GA (WTXL) - Georgia State Troopers can expect a pay raise soon.
In Atlanta, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal announced a pay raise for troopers Thursday morning. He said he wanted Georgia to make a statement that they stand behind their police officers, even at a time when there is a lot of public criticism for law enforcement.
The package of law enforcement reforms includes a 20 percent pay raise for more than 3,300 state law enforcement officers.
The pay raises require state legislative approval but the governor is so confident it will pass that the raises will go in effect in January, before lawmakers have a chance to vote.
As for training reforms, the governor has proposed expanding the list of required courses and expanding crisis intervention training. He also wanted to create a task force to review and improve the standards of the current courses.
