ATLANTA (AP) — Federal officials say Georgia exported a record amount of goods last year, which factored into the U.S. exporting roughly $2.35 trillion in merchandise total.
U.S. Department of Commerce officials said in a statement Thursday that Georgia exports totaled about $39.4 billion in 2014. The announcement came as the Obama administration released data promoting the role of exports in the economic recovery.
Commerce officials say Georgia exports supported roughly 202,000 jobs in 2013, and American exports supported about 11.3 million nationwide.
Officials say data from the Department of Commerce International Trade Administration says machinery and chemicals were Georgia's leading exports in 2014.
