Georgia DOT Observes Work Zone Awareness Week

GEORGIA DOT CONES

TIFTON, Ga. (WTXL)--The Georgia Department of Transportation is observing "Work Zone Awareness Week" with a display outside of their office in Tifton.

It includes 57 cones, one for each GDOT employee, who has died in a work zone accident since 1973.

This year's observance comes just weeks after a tractor trailer hit a rear buffer truck of a sign shop crew on U.S. 84.

The collision caused a chain reaction crash that damaged several other department vehicles. The four employees and the driver of the tractor trailer were not seriously injured.

GDOT is asking for you to "expect the unexpected" and be prepared for changes in work zones.
