Georgia child dies on Fourth of July after being hit by car on mini bike

ECHOLS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - An 11-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car while riding a mini bike.

On Monday, the Georgia State Patrol said that they responded to a crash on S.R. 11 at mile marker 7 close to Hitson St. in Echols County.

Troopers said that 69-year-old Margaret Hamblin was driving her 2001 Honda Accord on S.R. 11 when a a Coleman mini bike driven by an 11-year-old boy came out into the road from a private drive.

Hamblin’s car then hit the mini bike and the boy was ejected nearly 60 feet away into the south bound lane of the road.

The 11-year-old Savannah, Ga. boy was airlifted to Shands Medical Hospital in Gainesville, FL.  

The boy later died on the Fourth of July.

They say the boy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Troopers do not believe the crash was alcohol or drug related. 

No charges are expected for this crash.
