ATLANTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Georgia Department of Transportation is hoping to make 4th of July travel a little less hectic, by suspending construction-related lane closures on interstate and major state system highways.

It begins this evening, and the construction will remain suspended until July 6.

GDOT is making the move to ease holiday traffic congestion and to cut down on delays.

However, you should still remain alert, because some crews may still be working near highways and some long-term lane closures may remain in place.

During the 2014 4th of July weekend, 14 people died from crashes on Georgia roadways.
