GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - In an effort to prepare deputies for a major crisis that may come their way, the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office is putting deputies in Crisis Intervention Training.

Four GCSO deputies successfully completed 40 hours of Crisis Intervention Training hosted by the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

The training which was held by the Florida Sheriff's Association, is vital in the fostering of relationships between law enforcement, mental health providers, hospital emergency departments, and individuals with mental illnesses and their families.

Training Coordinator, Captain Bobby Collins, said that this training is a very important component needed to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the mental health community.

Collins also stated Gadsden County is implementing this training for every deputy with GCSO.
