TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Thousands of gallons of untreated wastewater has now been mostly cleaned up in Tallahassee after a spill Friday night near the Southwood neighborhood.
It happened at 2525 Shumard Oak Blvd. around 7:30 p.m. An environmental engineer with the city reported 2000 gallons of untreated domestic wastewater overflowing for about two hours due to a broken valve.
A report from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection shows the overflow was contained in a closed stormwater pond. City officials say the valve is now fixed.
Since Friday night, 1800 gallons have been cleaned up. The affected area has also been washed, disinfected and taped off.
