Gadsden County Sheriff's Office dedicates boat to 10-year-old drowning victim

GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office dedicated a new boat to a young boy who drowned last November.

The new search and rescue boat was unveiled Friday morning at Pat Thomas Park at Hopkins Landing.

It's something GCSO Sheriff Morris Young says he's always wanted to get for the team and when 10-year-old Skylar Brogdon-Marr drowned last November, the office knew it was time to make it happen.

The county does own one other small boat, but after Brogdon-Marr's drowning, they realized that boat just wasn't enough.

"It's a wonderful feeling but also its bitter-sweet because you know I would love for my son to be here and enjoy it but god had other plans," said Krystal Brogdon, mother of Skylar Brogdon-Marr. "He was truly something else, he had a laugh you'll never forget."

The boat and its equipment were donated by private citizens and a law enforcement vendor in memory of the young boy.
