GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young is hosting a safety barbecue for residents to learn ways to prevent house fires and addressing other safety concerns in the community.
The sheriff's office found it important to share the safety tips after two house fires in the Shiloh Road neighborhood.
Young says you need to make sure you constantly check your smoke detectors and to have an escape plan.
With fall temperatures around the corner, county commissioners say they're preparing the community ahead of the use of fireplaces and space heaters.
It was also a benefit for the family of Charlie Mae Allen Read and Lee Roye Reese, an eldery couple that died in a house fire this July.
