QUINCY, FL (WTXL) -- A newly released report from the FDLE shows Gadsden County cracking down on crime over the past decade.

Wednesday, the Sheriff's Office shared results from its 2015 annual crime report.

Overall, the crime rate went down 44 percent from 2005 to 2015.

Also seeing significant drops in that same time span were violent crime, robbery, incarceration, aggravated assault and burglary.

Sheriff Morris Young says though Gadsden is the poorest county in Florida, it has worked hard to become one of the safest.

"Our approach was to involve the whole community," Young said. "There are people who have been career criminals who have turned their life around. Somebody in the community has convinced them that's not the way to go."

In 2012, Gadsden County was ranked with the second highest crime rate in Florida. Just three years later, Gadsden was ranked 44th.

Sheriff Young credits a team of different community organizations in helping reduce crime in the county.
