GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) -  Gadsden County residents are planning to rally against the proposed closure of the local Social Security office.

Citizens will gather Wednesday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. in front of the office, located on East Jefferson Street, to protest the Social Security Administration's proposed closure of the facility.

U.S. Representative Steve Southerland II of Florida's Second District has voiced his support for keeping the office open.

“I was extremely disappointed to learn that the administration had chosen to close the doors on Quincy’s Social Security Administration office,” Southerland said in a statement released Tuesday night.  “We’ve been in contact with SSA and urged them to explore other options that will keep these vital services in place in Gadsden County, readily accessible to the people who need it most.”
