GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Faith-based leaders in Gadsden County are preparing for a new training.
The active shooter training has been in the works for the last year, but after this past weekend's church shooting in Texas, the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office felt the time was right.
Thursday, church pastors gathered at the Sheriff's Office to learn about this unique opportunity.
Over the course of the next month, these leaders will come together for a meeting where they will learn specific details about what to expect when the time comes to actually running the drill.
Many leaders are grateful for this opportunity.
"I'm actually very thrilled for them to give the efforts they're talking about thus far," said Todd Hill, the pastor at Grace Baptist Church. I'm happy that they're saying, 'Look, we need to help you guys get prepared.' I'm encouraged that they're going to give us some ideas on how to be prepared."
Although the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office has done active shooter trainings at the courthouse and schools, this is the first training that has been offered to the local churches and places of worship.
