GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - It's been a drawn out and now deadlocked debate between Gadsden County landowners and the Florida Highway Patrol over a piece of land.
Tuesday night, the Gadsden County Commission is expected to vote on how this piece of property should be used.
For several months now, a local resident hasn't been able to compromise with FHP over how to use the 109 acres of land in question.
FHP wants to build a high speed track to train state troppers how to speed safely. If built, the track would be used by statewide enforcement agencies.
The problem is a local landowner, Paul Hoppes, is hoping to build affordable, single-family housing near the piece of land in question. Hoppes wants to build a complex that could be home to more than 200 families.
His main concern is the elevated noise level.
At the County Commission meeting in May, FHP suggested noise buffers and limiting hours of operation.
WTXL will be sitting in the meeting and will have an updated story tonight at 11.
