GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Gadsden County Board of Commissioners has appointed its first female county administrator.

During their regular meeting on Tuesday, commissioners unanimously appointed Dee Jackson to serve as county administrator for Gadsden County.

The FAMU alumna is the first woman to be appointed to the position in the county's 200 year history. She was appointed to interim county administrator in 2017.

Prior to her appointment as interim county administrator, Jackson served as the grant writer for the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners.

“I’m extremely honored and excited about the opportunity I have to serve the community that I grew up in and has given me so much," said Jackson. "I look forward to continuing the progress of the last year, but I also relish the opportunity we have to face our challenges. Together, there’s little we can’t accomplish.”

County officials say Jackson serves on many public service advisory boards that focus on community empowerment, health and wellness, affordable housing, homelessness, drug rehabilitation and teen behavior modification.

“Having Ms. Jackson as the Gadsden County Administrator is definitely an asset. I sincerely believe that her desire to learn and her progressive proclivity will tremendously enhance this county’s growth and prosperity”, said Dr. Anthony O. Viegbesie, the chairman of the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners.
