GADSDEN COUNTY, FL. (WTXL) - The Gadsden County School System surprised its "teacher of the year" Wednesday at East Gadsden High School.
Erica Farmer, a history teacher at the high school was selected for the award. Farmer has been teaching at the school for nine years. She attended both elementary and middle school in the system and then returned to teach, years later. School administrators say, she faced stiff competition with so many qualified teachers nominated for the spot. Farmer says, having her students there for her receiving the award was important to her.
Farmer says, "I guess it's work in action, you the see the reward, you see the fruits of your labor. Hard work does pay off, sometimes it doesn't seem like it does, sometimes it's delayed - not delayed- but, inevitable none the less, it's coming."
The school system also awarded the rookie "teacher of the year", to Abria Harris. And the award for school related "employee of the year" was handed out to Vira Wynn.
