GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Gadsden County School Board is meeting at its district headquarters.
A group of parents, students, teachers from East and West Gadsden have met over the past several weeks going over ideas for the school.
But nothing will be decided tonight. This is an opportunity for the board to review a handful of options the group came up with.
WTXL talked to a few teachers from East Gadsden who were part of that group.
"As of now, it's going pretty well. With most high schools, it begins with great athletics, and so, when you have a great athletics program that's meshing together and blending well, you now open up the opportunity for the students to get along just fine," said Chavien Lockwood, a teacher at East Gadsden High School.
They told WTXL that this has been a collaboration ever since the school board voted to consolidate the district in early April.
The teachers said being cost-effective was a factor, so some of the color options include elements from East and West Gadsden.
Neither one would go into specifics, but one option for a name would be "Gadsden High School", which would just drop the east and west parts. They mentioned uniforms and other items that may have been purchased already but again, no vote tonight.
The superintendent says another special meeting will be held next week, where he expects to recommend a vote to finalize these details.
The district ends the school year next week, so, the hope is there's a bit more clarity about the high school by then.
