LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)- A Lowndes County murder case that sat cold for eight years ended with a conviction, and that conviction was upheld by the Georgia Supreme Court Tuesday.
Maurilio Martinez was found guilty of raping and killing a Kentucky woman, Joy Morris. Morris was found dead in her car behind a Lake Park Motel on Nov. 1, 2002.
The break in the case came when Valdosta police investigated another rape in April 2006. They found DNA evidence pointing to Martinez.
He will continue serving a life sentence.
