ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia House Speaker David Ralston says he hopes both chambers quickly vote on a bill allowing people with certain medical conditions to use a type of medical marijuana.
Ralston told The Associated Press in an interview Friday that he prefers both chambers vote on the legislation this week rather than waiting for the session's final days.
He says much work remains for the House, including consideration of Gov. Nathan Deal's proposal to take over failing schools and resolving differences between the House and Senate on how to raise enough money to maintain roads and bridges.
A House subcommittee also plans to take up a divisive bill that supporters say will protect religious freedom but opponents worry is legal cover for discrimination. Ralston says the panel's members will review it carefully.
