PICKENS COUNTY, GA (WALB) - The latest viral internet trend, the "Lip Sync Challenge," has police departments around the country lip-syncing to popular songs.
The video from the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, however, has a deeper meaning: domestic violence.
The video posted on their Facebook page starts off lighthearted with deputies dancing and having fun. About a minute in, the video takes a serious turn, showing a realistic domestic violence situation.
In the video, officials point out that the most recent statistics showed that law enforcement in Georgia responded to over 65,000 family violence incidents in one year. Within the past year, 15.5 million children witnessed acts of domestic violence nationwide, the video adds.
If you or someone you know is being abused, call the 24-hour statewide hotline: 1-800-334-2836. You can also find out more information about domestic violence here. If you are outside of Georgia, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233.
