ATLANTA (AP) — Health officials in Georgia are inviting the public to comment on a state nutrition assistance program.

The Georgia Department of Public Health plans to hold a public comment period on the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children from Aug. 5 through Sept. 6.

Health officials say the monthlong comment period is meant to encourage Georgians to comment on the successes of the program and on areas where it could improve.

The program, known as WIC, aims to promote positive food choices and good health by providing food options based on their nutrient content, availability throughout the state and cost.

There are more than 1,400 retailers across the state that participate in the WIC program food delivery system.
