ATLANTA (AP) - The clock is ticking for Georgia state lawmakers seeking to pass legislation this year.

Thursday marks a key deadline. Under an internal rule, legislation not adopted by one chamber in the General Assembly by the 30th legislative day risks failing for the year. That deadline is known as "Crossover Day."

State lawmakers meet for 40 working days every year.

There are some exceptions, for example, the state budget.

House lawmakers are expected to debate new proposals governing who can carry a firearm in Georgia. Senate lawmakers are expected to take up legislation affecting tax credits that reward people who donate to private school scholarships.
