HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) - A fugitive who has been on the run for 26 years has finally been captured in South Florida.

Hialeah police told reporters that 66-year-old Anibal Mustelier was arrested Monday on armed robbery, grand theft and other charges in connection with a string of jewelry store robberies.

Mustelier has been sought by the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and other agencies on robbery, extortion and other charges. Authorities told the Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/2bfjviB ) that Mustelier is believed to have worked as contract killer in Cuba and was implicated in attempted assassinations in the 1980s.

The FBI said Mustelier may have hid out in his native Cuba or Venezuela while on the lam.

Jail records show Mustelier is being held without bail. Court records don't yet list a lawyer for him.
