TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The Florida State University Presidential Search Advisory Committee met Wednesday to discuss potential nominations for FSU's next president.
The committee voted 15-9 to interview Florida State Senator John Thrasher.
Doctor Garnett Stokes is currently serving as FSU's interim president.
Former President Dr. Eric Barron, left earlier this year to take the top job at Penn State.
In a three-page letter, former President Talbot Sandy D'Alemberte nominated Senator Thrasher as potential candidate for the position.
Thrasher made headlines in recent weeks, for proposing the controversial legislation that would have split up the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.
Members of FSU's student body were joined by the Dream Defenders for a protest ahead of the start of this morning's meeting.
The group saying Thrasher does not have the best interest of minority students in mind.
