TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A new mural is going up on Gaines Street in Tallahassee. The outline has been painted by FSU students, hoping to reach out to the community to help fill the rest in.
The Department of Art Education is inviting members of the Tallahassee community to roll up their sleeves and lend a helping hand.
They are collaborating with Tallahassee's Opening Nights to start a community mural project right in the heart of the city. The program donated all of the paint and supplies for the mural.
The students are asking Tallahassee residents to help fill in the mural for the next several weeks.
The students say they see the mural as a way to bridge the FSU community with the greater Tallahassee community.
A student in the arts program, Evie Hempler, says the project hopes to attract all kinds of people from around town, "anyone of any skill level can come out and help, children and adults of all abilities are welcome to join in the fun." Hempler says the mural is "really a big color by numbers sort of project."
