TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A group of Florida State University students leave Friday evening to join the March for Our Lives event in D.C.
Just about one hundred students will gather in three groups at the Leach Center Friday on their way to the March for Our Lives in Washington D.C.
In a public meeting shortly after the tragic event, FSU President James Thrasher noted that Marjory Stoneman Douglas is a large feeder school for FSU.
A current FSU student who is also a Marjory Stoneman Douglas alumn says she was inspired to organize their mobilization after a trip home to Parkland.
"So we're advocating for the same things currently that the Marjory Stoneman Douglas students are advocating for, the elimination of bump stocks, and the production of assault weapons allowed in schools," said student advocate Shayna Cohen. "And we want to show that we, even though we currently don't go to that high school any more we still feel the tragedy that's impacted them and we want to stand there and support."
Shayna and her team left Friday at 6 p.m.
Shayna used Facebook and GoFundMe to get almost 100 students to the Capital.
