TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The FSU softball team received a grand welcome at City Hall as the commission honored the champs before moving on to other business at Wednesday's meeting.

The city commission was already scheduled to meet Wednesday, but last night's historic win added a new item to the meeting.

The team was greeted with the War Chant and a standing ovation inside commission chambers.

Mayor Andrew Gillum and the rest of the commission delivered an official proclamation recognizing the team's efforts in the Women's College World Series.

Head coach Lonni Alameda and MVP Jessie Warren thanked the city for supporting the team throughout their journey.

"It's a family here. We know it's a family, but we truly lived it yesterday morning and felt it. So, this trophy is not only for us. It's for the whole city and the all the alumni and everyone who's played as a softball player at Florida State," said Alameda. "We're just so glad that we had the opportunity to bring it up here into Tallahassee."

Mayor Gillum said the team will also receive a Key to the City, but it wasn't ready in time for Wednesday's presentation.
