TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - FSU running back Mario Pender has been arrested and is facing charges of strangulation and domestic battery, according to Tallahassee Police.
Pender was taken into custody Saturday.
The university released this statement regarding Pender's arrest:
"Florida State Athletics announced today that Mario Pender has been permanently dismissed from the football team following his arrest earlier in the day. The Athletics Department will have no further comment at this time."
His arrest comes less than a year after Florida State football player De'Andre Johnson was arrested for hitting a woman in a Tallahassee nightclub. He was found guilty on the battery charges and was dismissed from the football team following the June incident.
Pender's first court appearance is Sunday at 8:30 a.m
