TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A change at Florida State University could mean more change coming from your pocket.

FSU Transportation and Parking Services recently increased the meter prices for on campus parking.

Recent increases to metered parking at FSU could nearly double the revenue steam by generating in an estimated additional $30,000 annually.

The previous rate was fifty cents per hour. Meters are already marked with the price increase that went into effect on March 26.

These changes follow additions to parking availability such as the shared Railroad Avenue parking lot and 100 additional student parking spaces near Smith Hall.

FSU parking administration says, in the unfortunate event that you receive a citation, those funds are going to good use.

"It's going to go to a lot of different things, first the parking that we've already constructed, maintenance of existing lots, trans programs such as bringing new buses to campus, we've increased our ride sharing program and improved that, so a lot of different programs that it goes to and this is really just a drop in the bucket of all the things we need to do in our fifteen year plan," said Matthew Inman.

Inman also says that the 140 metered parking spaces on FSU campus are mainly designed for visitor use only.

Similarly, the City of Tallahassee also plans to increase its meter rates soon.
