TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois has been offered a diversion program after Tallahassee Police searched his home and charged him with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
The Tallahassee Democrat broke the news that the quarterback was given a notice to appear in court and faces a charge of possession of fewer than 20 grams of marijuana.
WTXL ABC 27 confirmed the news with Florida State, who told us, "we are aware of the situation and it is being handled internally."
A police report WTXL obtained Friday says, the Tallahassee Police Department served a search warrant on Francois' home on Wednesday around 10 p.m.
Francois was inside the home with his girlfriend at the time. Both were detained and officers searched the house and the two cars that were present.
Officers found multiple items of drug paraphernalia in various places throughout the home, to include several blunts, an instant drug test cup, three vials of pain medication a 'Bob Marley' grinder, iPhones, iPads, multiple plastic bags with marijuana residue on them and running back Zaquandre White's FSU ID.
Additionally, over 17 grams of a weed/tobacco mixture and items of drug paraphernalia were found in Francois' bedroom.
While interviewing with officers, Francois admitted to knowing about the weed and having smoked it as recently as December of 2017. Francois told officers, however, that he "can't smoke right now" and said the weed belonged to his girlfriend.
The police report says Francois qualified for participation in the State Attorney's Office Pre-Arrest Diversion Program and was issued a notice.
He was not arrested.
The incident comes just two days before FSU's spring game. This is not Francois' first brush with the law.
In January, Francois was investigated for a domestic violence issue. That case was closed due to conflicting statements by Francois and his girlfriend.
