TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A FSU professor's experiment will be sent into space aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX.

Dr. Oliver Steinbock's chemical garden experiment will be sent to the International Space Station.

The project's goal is to grow a chemical garden, which is made up of inorganic structures that can spring up from metal salts and a silicate solution.

Steinbock will send more than 35 vacuum-sealed sample bags aboard the SpaceX rocket.

"An idea to develop a new track of engineering materials, its a long shot kind of," Dr. Steinbock , who works with FSU's department of chemistry and biochemistry, explained. "It's nothing that will happen next week or so but it's really looking for very new creative ways of designing materials and appliances."
