TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An online article is creating a buzz at FSU, claiming the school is the number three college with the highest rate of sexually transmitted diseases.
The article says that FSU's county, Leon County, has the most STD cases of any other in the state and has the third highest STD percentage rate in america.
Florida state is only beaten on the list by Arizona State and Iowa University.
It's no surprise the rates would be high near a college campus.
That's why one sexual health coordinator at FSU, Anna Benbrook, says the college takes many measures to tackle the issue. Benbrook says they do outreach in dorms and with student organizations. They also provide programs with educational opportunities and free condoms.
She also says another change is in store, "we're actually expanding to ten more locations on campus, which is really exciting."
