TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - All this happening on the same day Spring rush is getting underway on Florida State's campus.

University leaders tell us 'rush week', and the overall FSU fraternity and sorority experience, is definitely changing this year. They say the national organizations are now more involved and school officials are keeping tabs on all new member activities.

Basically, more oversight and accountability.

University leaders say, the mood has been one of support for change as parents, students, faculty and even community members, are looking for positive changes to avoid another tragedy.

"We all acknowledge what happened in November to Andrew Coffey was horrible and we don't even want that to happen again so we're trying to do everything we can to make sure that we're keeping students safe. Everyone has answered the call," said Chris Graham, the FSU director of fraternity & sorority life. "Our students are very involved and invested. People know all of the things that are expected of them and they're adhering to them. If they don't, there won't be a place for them at Florida State."

Another interesting thing to note: Admission is actually on the rise.

Florida State says they've received a record-breaking number of first-year applicants this year.
