TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee's two universities are working on major development projects this year.

Crews are expected to start on one of those projects this week.

Both FSU and FAMU are looking at the future when it comes to these projects, but they're also realizing the need for more space and resources for their students.

Let's start with FSU. The College of Business will move into a new five-floor building called Legacy Hall. It will be the largest academic space on campus.

Legacy Hall will be on the corner of Gaines Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. It's an $88 million project.

FSU wants to break ground this fall and hopes to open Legacy Hall in the fall of 2021.

Now, let's look at FAMU.

The university is building an amphitheater for students and the community to use.

To make room for it, FAMU will tear down four residence halls that haven't been used for years.

The university says it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain them.

The amphitheater will cost about $2.7 million, and students are paying for more than half of it. The SGA contributed around $1.5 million in what's called "capital improvement trust funding."

FAMU says work will begin this week, but is waiting on contractors to confirm when, based on the weather.

The goal is to have the amphitheater ready for the 2019-2020 school year.
