TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Florida State's President and Law School Dean have banded together to create a new scholarship targeting historically underrepresented students.

On Wednesday, FSU President John Thrasher and FSU College of Law Dean Erin O'Connor announced the establishment of the FSU Friends Opportunity Scholarship that will provide scholarships to students who are from groups that are underrepresented in the legal profession.

"It is our hope that other alumni and friends of the law school will contribute to the scholarship fund and that these gifts will help us attract the best and brightest students to Florida State," said President Thrasher.

Both Thrasher and O'Connor pledged $50,000 each to the scholarship.

"I am extremely grateful to President Thrasher for joining me in the creation of this scholarship fund," said Dean O'Connor.
