TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An FSU English professor has been chosen as one of 37 writers to receive a highly selective $25,000 fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts for 2017.
James Kimbrell, specializes in poetry, and was selected from more than 1,800 applicants for his second NEA creative writing fellowship.
His first was in 2004.
The fellowship gives writers the time and space to create, revise, conduct research and connect with readers through the creative writing fellowships program.
“The NEA has an excellent record of supporting writers who have gone on to have impressive literary careers,” said NEA Director of Literature Amy Stolls. “With their talent and diverse backgrounds, this year’s Creative Writing Fellows, including James Kimbrell, will add to our country’s rich literary history.”
Kimbrell says he will be able to continue working on his new collection of poetry titled "Flea Trap".
“It is a tremendous honor to be among this year’s NEA Fellows,” said Kimbrell, who joined the FSU faculty in 2000. “There’s no better affirmation and encouragement than to be selected by a panel of one’s peers.”
