FSU Alum Directed "Moonlight" Takes Home the Oscar for Best Picture

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Florida State alum can now add Academy Award winner to his resume.

Director Barry Jenkin's movie "Moonlight" taking home the Oscar last night.

"I think all the movies that were nominated were worthy so I accepted the results. I applauded like everyone else. I noticed a commotion that was happening and I thought something strange had occurred," said Barry Jenkins. "And then I'm sure everybody saw my face, but I was speechless when the result was altered because I've watched the Academy Awards, I've never seen that happen before. And so it made a very special feeling even more special, but not in the way I expected."

Price Water House Coopers, the accounting firm that tallies the Oscar votes, released this statement on the best picture mix-up:

"We sincerely apologize to 'Moonlight,' 'La La Land,' Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for best picture."

The film also took home two other Oscars: Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor, Mahershala Ali. 

There were four other FSU alumni were also nominated for their work on the film: Adele Romanski, Best Picture; James Laxton, Best Cinematographer; Joi McMillon and Nat Sanders, Best Film Editing.
