TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Friday is National Wear Red Day, a way to raise awareness about heart disease in women.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women. Each year, one in three women die from heart disease.
Here are ways experts say you can support the Go Red For Women cause. Wearing red on Friday helps show support. You can share pictures using #TallyGoesRed.
Here are ways you can get heart healthy:
- Get your numbers: ask your doctor to check your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose.
- Own your lifestyle: stop smoking, lose weight, be physically active and eat healthy.
- Raise your voice: advocate for more women-related research and education.
- Educate your family: make healthy food choices for you & your family. teach your kids the importance of staying active.
- Donate: show your support with a donation of time or money.
You can also support the American Heart Association with the Leon Heart Ball.
Last year, this national fundraiser raised nearly $73 million, with support from more than 100,000 people and corporations.
The Leon Heart Ball is Friday, February 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center (505 W. Pensacola Street).
