MIDWAY, FL (WTXL) -- At this point in time, there are no areas of tropical interest near our local area. There is an area in the Atlantic being watched for possible development.

A disorganized area of thunderstorm activity located 250 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands has a 40% chance to gain tropical characteristics in the next five days. It will travel west-northwest between 15 and 20 MPH, bringing rain and gusty winds to the Northern Leeward Islands and Virgin Islands over the next several days.

Hurricane Ophelia is still holding on to it's Category 2 strength with winds sustained at 100 MPH. It continues to travel north-northeast at 12 MPH, where it is expected to become post tropical within the next five days.
